Anti-Bullying Week is here! Five days of celebrating kindness, respect, and the power within us to make a positive difference by standing up to or calling out bullying behaviours. To kick off, we hope to see everyone wearing odd socks on Monday to show that it's okay to be different and remind ourselves to be proud of our uniqueness. Let’s stand together against bullying and celebrate the wonderful diversity that makes our school community so special!
🏃♀️GDST Trust Rally ⚽️
Mr Ashdown and Miss Abbott
On Thursday, our NGHS football team from Years 5 and 6 - Rosie, Johanna, Katharina, Chloe D, Aleesha, Isobel D, Pippa, Harriet and Jaime - entered the GDST Trust Rally Tournament.
Competing in Group 2, the girls worked incredibly hard; they recorded three losses and a 1-1 draw, with a brilliant goal from Rosie. Fantastic teamwork was evident throughout, with brave defending bravely, good examples of clearing the ball from danger, and a real effort to push forward into attacking positions.
In the afternoon, we qualified for the Bowl Competition, facing schools with similar results from the morning. Our girls continued to give their all, securing another draw, a narrow loss, and finishing with an impressive 1–0 win in their final match - with Rosie once again finding the back of the net!
A huge well done to everyone involved for their superb efforts, collaboration and determination. Girls, you represented NGHS brilliantly, and you competed with great spirit against some outstanding footballers from across our GDST family of schools ⚽️🎯
The NGHS Juniors U11 cross country team also travelled to Croydon for the GDST rally this week, with a super early departure of 5.30am!
Our runners acquitted themselves well against strong opposition. They were joined by girls from the senior school and were able to watch as they ran and cheer them on. Our best performance came from Katharina (5MC) in 27th position from a highly competitive field of over 120 which included Year 6 girls too 👍
* REMINDER FOR YEARS 3-6 *
Girls should by now have submitted their Mountain Climb Cardio Challenge sheets for display and house points! We hope that it has inspired everyone to undertake physical activity on a regular basis, and we look forward to seeing the girls demonstrating resilience and cardiovascular fitness in this term’s inter-House Cardio Reindeer Run and our ‘12 Days of Fitness’ in the lead up to Christmas.
Year 6 Sisters of Charity
Remembrance Sunday will be observed in the UK and Commonwealth this coming weekend, with Remembrance Day itself taking place on Tuesday 11 November when - at 11am - we will observe two minutes of respectful silence across the school. This is for us to think carefully about the many lives lost or affected by war in the past, and lives which continue to be difficult or endangered in our uniformed services.
Raising vital funds to support the work of the Royal British Legion, our pop-up Poppy Appeal shop will be open again on Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes. Every girl who has made a purchase will be given a plastic-free poppy on Tuesday morning to wear in school on Remembrance Day. Thank you for your support so far!

Year 5 vs Year 6 TTRS Half Term Challenge
Mrs Braud, Mrs Wood, Mr Elkington, Mrs Crawshaw, Mr Cox
We recently saw some phenomenal results in the Times Tables Rock Stars tournament which ran for the second half of October!
Competition was stiff from the outset, with some strong performances across both year groups - however Year 5 soared ahead over the holiday with Florence (5MC) leading the charge, supported especially well by Millie, Katharina, Chloe D and Imogen.
Junli, Emily, Charlotte and Evie also fought valiantly for Year 6, although this was not to be their day as they lost their initial lead during Half Term.
A REMINDER
We will be accepting donations of unwanted clothing and footwear from Monday 10th to 9am on Wednesday 19 November. Even socks and underwear can be sent to this recycling and reusing project, which diverts materials from landfill and helps to raise funds for the Salvation Army. If you need more sacks, you can ...
ask a teacher at drop off or collection
pick one up from reception
email your daughter's class teacher
Sacks can either be brought to the playground at 8am or 3:40pm, or be dropped off at the Rainbow Room.
Join us for a special evening - exclusive to NGHS parents - a Global Wine Tour in partnership with Weavers Wines, raising money for our Bursary Fund.
Bring friends and enjoy a guided tasting of exceptional wines from around the world, accompanied by delicious nibbles. Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply enjoy a good glass, this is an event not to be missed - with opportunities to places or make purchases on evening.
£30 per person
All proceeds will support our Her Future, Your Gift bursary campaign, helping more girls to benefit from an NGHS education.
Miss Spray is currently working on an upcycling project which will support a rejuvenation of Reception's 'home corner', the setting in which girls enjoy role play with the help of objects from everyday life. Interaction and cooperation in a realistic environment helps young children to develop skills and increase confidence in key areas such as dexterity, creativity, personal independence and empathy.
Please email Miss Spray r.spray2@not.gdst.net if you would like to re-home any of the following items:
toaster * kettle * storage cannisters/Tupperware
cooking utensils from different cultures
baskets * trays * mug tree * fruit bowl
old mobile phones
curtains * wallpaper
coffee table/nest of tables * photo frames
pendant lampshades * table lamp
Moses basket and stand / crib
small sofa/armchairs * bedside table * child size wardrobe or similar
adult size coat hangers
costume jewellery - chunky necklaces, bangles

Electrical items do not need to work - we will remove all cables and make them safe for play.

Thank you!
Mr Cox and Year 6
Thank you again to everyone who contributed to our 2025 Harvest Appeal, which marked 150 years of NGHS educating girls by supporting the amazing work of Nottingham Central Women's Aid. We are also grateful to those parents who made donations to this good cause at last summer's Year 5 and Year 6 production of My Son Pinocchio.
A representative from NCWA visited school on Thursday this week to tell us more about their charitable work, helping us to understand how women and children sometimes find themselves in need of emergency accommodation, support and advice.
This was an extremely interesting and thought-provoking PSHE lesson for our oldest pupils, which gave them opportunities to brainstorm, formulate and ask insightful questions.
Well done, Year 6 - you listened carefully and respectfully, so you now have a better understanding of what motivates people to work for charities that help those who find themselves in dire straits. And thank you for also sharing your thoughts afterwards:
"I've think it's great that NCWA exists, although I was quite shocked to find out that families sometimes have to stay with them for a long time."
"I now know more about the types of situations families sometimes end up in. I feel sorry for children who have to seek refuge, but I'm glad someone makes sure they have Christmas and birthday presents."
"I think it's a good idea for women to know that they have a safe place to stay, and I hope that all families who are in trouble can eventually find a forever home."
"I have been especially moved by the idea of NCWA having a person especially employed to look after children."
Nottingham City Netball Club is looking for new players from age 6 upwards! All training takes place after school on Tuesdays or Wednesdays in the NGHS Sports Hall and with fees set at just £5 per session, this is a great way to improve fitness and develop a love for a very sociable game that will last girls through Senior School, university and beyond.
Players who attend After School Club before coaching are taken to the Sports Hall by an NGHS member of staff. All age groups participate in tournaments and local leagues, and are supervised by qualified DBS-checked instructors and umpires who are all first aid trained.
Tables at our annual Christmas Fair are £25 each, to support the NGHS Bursary Fund, with traders keeping any profits made.
Stalls can sell a variety of gifts, decorations, homewares, etc – anything edible must be nut-free with ingredients and allergens clearly labelled. We also recommend selling items that are not too heavy, large or fragile – so that they can be taken home easily in a school bag.
Email events@not.gdst.net to enquire or book.
