Mrs Bailey
On Friday, Year 3 enjoyed a study visit to Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire, as part of their Incredible India topic. Kedleston was the ancestral home of George Curzon - Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905 - who amassed an extensive collection of fascinating Asian artefacts. As well as experiencing the splendour of the house’s interiors and the autumnal beauty of its parkland setting, the girls were able to admire this year’s Diwali light installations, with the warm colour of marigolds and flickering diya lamps throughout the reception rooms.
We wish everyone joy, light, prosperity and good health – all of which are symbolised and celebrated in the festival of lights.

The Ashmolean Museum
The Pitt Rivers Collection
Museum of Natural History
Mrs Baker, Miss Myers, Mrs Price
This week, girls from Year 4 visited the University of Oxford's Ashmolean Museum and Pitt Rivers Collection to explore ancient Egyptian artefacts up close. Mummified cats, birds of prey and crocodiles drew gasps of wonder, as did the bandaged contents of cedar coffins which had been painted thousands of years ago - bringing to life what the girls have learnt in class. 4B were especially adept at recognising real life cartouches which depict the gods and symbols studied in history lessons, and were also rather taken with the dozens of funerary objects on display and the artefacts which they were invited to handle. Models of boats and farming scenes demonstrated how the tombs of the nobility can reveal much about ancient Egyptian daily life beyond palace walls. Well done for conducting yourselves so beautifully and asking such probing questions in both museums, girls!
As an afternoon treat, 4B also enjoyed an exciting self-guided visit to the University's Museum of Natural History where there were opportunities to find out about creatures past and present, capping off a wonderful day of discovery.

It’s back! Recycle with Michael provides families with an easy and sustainable way in which to dispose of unwanted clothing and footwear, without having to traipse to a charity shop or textile bank. This scheme – run by The Salvation Army and supported by our Year 6 Sisters of Charity – will rehome or recycle your donations, so items do not have to be in a resalable condition. Even socks and underwear are accepted, thus diverting synthetic materials from landfill.
Please order sacks using the link provided, and they will be sent home with your daughter on Tuesday so that you can have a half term clear out.
Thereafter extra sacks will be available from class teachers or from Junior Reception, and we will accept donations from Monday 10th to Wednesday 19 November.
Mrs Wood, Mr Cox, Mrs Astill
On Wednesday, girls from Year 6 rose to the challenge of two fast-paced workshops at The Story Museum in Oxford, using role play and illustration to explore settings, sequencing and situations. There was also an opportunity to see the real-life location that inspired C.S. Lewis when creating the characters of Mr Tumnus and Aslan for his Chronicles of Narnia.
This study visit - which supports the girls' Autumn Term study of The Magician's Nephew (the prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) - included a tour of the museum's immersive galleries, all with the aim of providing inspiration for future reading and writing. This was an enjoyable and purposeful day of activities, and we were very impressed with the creativity, confidence and curiosity displayed!
Right: See our Instagram feed for highlights 😀
Aslan and Mr Tumnus can be found in these doorway carvings, right opposite the church where C.S. Lewis was a regular worshipper

This week, it was Year 3 and Year 4's turn to tackle the pentathlon - there was much excitement and many examples of excellence were showcased in a range of running, jumping and throwing events. Results were tight, with the eventual victors declared as LUXTON!
Our top three Year 3 achievers were Gracie, Isabelle and Sakeenah, whilst in Year 4 Helia, Freya and Mckendra were triumphant - well done, girls!
Everyone now has a baseline score for their fitness and will work all year to improve; when we repeat our pentathlon in the Summer Term, we will recognise and reward the most improved performances.
Continuing with the theme of fitness, I do hope that girls in Years 3 to 5 have made positive starts on their month-long cardio challenge. These tasks are designed to be quick and enjoyable, fitting in easily with family life and improving awareness of fitness and exercise. Parents, please continue to support your daughters in their endeavour and perhaps even join in yourself. Feel free to email pictures of your half term efforts to j.abbott@not.gdst.net for inclusion in our Instagram feed and 'pour encourager les autres'!

Six intrepid mathematicians recently presented NGHS Juniors at the 2025 GDST Junior Maths Conference, hosted by the University of Oxford's Mathematical Institute. This year's programme included a Mathematical Magic interactive workshop and activities led by Sixth Form students from our sister GDST school, Oxford High.
Well done to Junli, Evie, Pippa, Charlotte, Sophia and Emily who were selected for this challenge and who were fabulous ambassadors for our school. 👍🏼

Every young musician and singer showcased excellent preparation, confidence, and an infectious enthusiasm for performing and sharing a love of music.

We look forward to announcing - in the coming week - the recipients of runner-up medals and the performers who will feature in the much-anticipated Finalists Concert on Tuesday 11 November. Miss Duce
To round off their week of learning about pets, our youngest pupils recently seized an exciting opportunity to visit the Senior School's Pet Club. There, the girls met Saffy the school dog, Loki the bearded dragon, some stick insects and even some giant African snails.
Everyone enjoyed learning all about how to care for these animals seeing saw the snails eat lettuce, holding the stick insects and stroking Loki and Saffy.
What a lovely, hands-on way to recap the needs of different living things and share our own experiences of family pets - we even baked some dog-shaped shortbread biscuits!
(For pupils aged 6 - 11)
Many of our older girls will know Miss Georgia from Cheer Club - now this is an exciting opportunity for younger girls to work with her too ...
