Our Junior School community has a tradition of generosity at this time of the year, when we support local organisations that help the homeless or deprived. In recent times, we have helped the Christian-led Friary homelessness charity, Guru Nanak's Mission, and Muslim Hands.
This year - to mark 150 years of educating girls - we are proud to be collecting donations on behalf of Nottingham Central Women's Aid, a charity that does so much to help women and children who need short- to medium-term accommodation and assistance for reasons of personal safety.
When compiling your grocery lists over the coming days, please consider our appeal and give generously. Moving home at a moment's notice - often without personal possessions or access to funds - must make for a desperate situation, so this year's appeal focuses on everyday essentials:
toilet roll * tissues * cosmetics * underwear
toiletries (e.g. toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, sanitary products)
tinned food * boxed or tinned soft drinks
dry food (e.g. pasta, rice, pulses)
cereals * snacks (e.g. crisps, biscuits)
inexpensive children's toys * comics * colouring books
children's stationery (e.g. felt tip or crayon sets)
Donations welcome from Monday 6th - Friday 17th October
All items must be nut-free - please double check ingredients

Early Years Maths with Miss Duce
Nursery and Pre School have been exploring and learning about patterns in maths this week. They have been busy trying to notice everyday patterns or sequences within their environment, including on their clothes and on objects such as the outside of the school building.
Among the many practical activities they have experienced, the girls have worked hard to create repeating patterns using either two or three colours, saying each colour as they worked to confirm each sequence.

We have had a truly wonderful start to the term in the Music Department. It has been a joy to see so many girls embracing their one-to-one lessons with enthusiasm, and to witness the inspired energy in our diverse array of music clubs. F rom choirs to instrumental ensembles, it has been heartening to see commitment and creativity shining through.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s musical journey - whether you are exploring one-to-one tuition or choosing from our wide range of extra-curricular clubs - please feel free to email me m.rolfe@not.gdst.net or arrange an appointment to talk things through. I am always delighted to support families in finding the best musical opportunities for their daughters.
With clubs now up and running, we are excited to share the details of our concerts for this term and we look forward to celebrating girls' hard work and talents with you at these occasions.
For pupils and parents new to NGHS, welcome to a rich and vibrant life of music in our school!

Our hugely popular collection of wellies-for-loan is somewhat depleted following the retirement of some of our more leaky boots, and we are running low on larger sizes.
If your son or daughter has recently grown out of a pair, please would you consider donating them to our ever-thrifty, super-sustainable Outdoor Learning Department? We would be especially grateful for adult sizes 3 to 7 - THANK YOU! 🙏

Our Reception class had a wonderful time visiting Build a Bear in Sheffield on Monday. The girls were extremely excited to be choosing and making a new class friend. Lots of important decisions were made, and finally 'Sparkledust' was created - and with a set of special outfits too! Sparkledust is very much looking forward to her adventures during the year with RB - what a great start to our school year!

We had a wonderful Sports Top Tuesday this year; this was the second time we have held this event and what a turnout from everyone! We showcased a wide range of individual and team sports including tennis, swimming, football, rugby, equestrian and even self-defence. Nation shirts included cricketing India, footballing Tanzania and Ghana, and Australian rugby. What a wonderful day, and it continues to generate debate and discussion!

As part of their geography topic, Year 6 enjoyed a hands-on outdoor learning experience at Nottingham’s Arboretum earlier this week -this was our city’s first public park, opened in 1852. Originally designed as a botanical collection and a peaceful retreat, the Arboretum is now home to over 800 trees across 65 species, making it a perfect setting for outdoor learning.
During this visit, 6B and 6W used maps to locate and identify nearly thirty different tree species - back in the classroom, they will now research each species and plot its origin on a world map, linking local fieldwork to global geography. This was also an opportunity to develop observational and photographic skills, with many girls capturing stunning shots of the park's famous dahlia beds which are still in full bloom.
This was a fantastic morning of discovery, creativity and connection with nature - all whilst deepening our Year 6s' understanding and appreciation of the natural and built environments that surround them.
