Well done to everyone who has revised and received sponsorship for our good causes, School Council projects and the work of Nottingham Nottingham Central Women's Aid. A small handful of girls have not yet received a pledge, but it's not too late to give generously - thank you.
WE HAVE SOLD OUT!
Thank you to everyone who bought honey from the NGHS Juniors beekeeping project. The proceeds will now be ploughed back into our learning programme 👍

This week, 3B enjoyed a field trip to Lodge Farm in Burton Joyce; this was to follow up on their 2025 beehive work and to witness beekeeping in another setting. Thanks go to Connie's mother and grandfather for hosting us.
There was also a chronology element to this visit as the girls considered 'Who came first - humans or bees?' and completed a timeline linking the Victorian, Stuart and Roman eras with the Iron Age, the last ice age, Cresswell Crags and bees themselves.
As well as observing an active hive in the main field at Lodge Farm, Year 3 also enjoyed a trail around Lodge Farm's fields, garden and woods to look for bees, flowering plants and trees. Well done, girls - you demonstrated great observation skills and asked excellent questions!

Wow. Just wow! Years 5 and 6 truly excelled on stage in the Squire Performing Arts Centre this week, in their production of Frozen Jr - two matinees and two evening shows in the space of 48 hours is no mean feat!
We are so proud of everyone involved in this collaboration. Beautifully delivered lines, pitch perfect singing, precise choreography, and super acting - all delivered with our Junior School RECIPE ingredients of RESILIENCE and POSITIVITY.
As well as heaping praise upon the many girls in the spotlight, we also thank the Senior School students from Years 9 and 10 who gave up their spare time to help behind the scenes, Mrs Jane Fairhurst who did such a splendid job with wardrobe and props, the technical and front of house team in The Space, and Junior School staff who controlled the wings, supervised the dressing rooms and executed special effects.
As you can see from our pictures taken from the auditorium and backstage, this was a massive team effort - well done! 👏🏻
This year's Scholastic Book Fair will be open in the Rainbow Room during break times and lunchtimes, with a librarian on hand to offer guidance:
Fri 15 May – Years 5-6
Mon 18 May – Nursery, Reception, Years 1-2
Tue 19 May – Years 3-4
There will be a 3 for 2 promotion on all titles, and girls will need to bring cash to school in a named purse for their purchases. Sorry, we are unable to reserve books, however we can order additional copies if we sell out of popular titles.

Every pupil achieving 80%+
Study leave provides our teachers with opportunities - after ten years of service - to spend time pursuing interests that help to fuel their creativity in school.
Examples in recent years have included Miss Abbott spending time with Baroness Sue Campbell and the Lionesses at the Women's Euro tournament in Switzerland, Mrs Crawshaw visiting Japan to experience the artwork of Hokusai and peace and reconciliation in Hiroshima, and Mr Cox exploring impressionist art in Paris and Roman history at Pompeii.
This week, we hear about Mrs Bailey's discoveries in Southeast Asia and Down Under ...
"My recent study leave was an opportunity to visit Singapore, Malaysia and Australia, and to learn about their different cultures and education systems.
Singapore was especially fascinating because it is one of the world's most religiously diverse nations. Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, Taoists, Sikhs and Hindus co-exist with no single faith dominating the population, and there are no fewer than four official languages - Mandarin, English, Malay and Tamil. It is also a famously ordered society with strict rules - jaywalking and chewing gum are illegal, eating and drinking on public transport is forbidden! Highlights for me included the amazing Changi Airport with its huge indoor waterfall, Marina Bay's stunning nighttime light and water displays, and orchids at the world-famous Botanical Gardens.
In Malaysia, I loved sampling different foods during Eid, seeing beautiful mosques and temples, and spending time with our former colleague Mr Cooper who taught at NGHS in Years 5 and 6. I very much enjoyed experiencing the Kuala Lumpur rush hour on his moped, seeing his workplace, and observing pupils in lessons at the Garden International School.
In Australia, I stayed near Sydney with my best friend from teacher training college and helped in her school for a week. Especially memorable moments for me were seeing Sydney's iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge, stunning beaches, and koala bears and kangaroos - and it was interesting to learn about Australia's history of migration 🐨
Fascinating facts - koalas sleep for 21 hours per day and have special bone plates that allow them to sit and sleep comfortably in trees! There are rope bridges across roads for koalas and possums to reach their food sources, and there are shark nets, drones and helicopter patrols on beaches to help protect swimmers 🦈
Spending time with my friend was very special for me, and I know I’m very lucky to have had the opportunity to travel to such amazing places - however I was pleased to return home to my family, class and colleagues whom I’d missed whilst being away!" ❤️

What a magnificent send-off this week for our Year 13 pupils who are about to take their A-level examinations!
Following the annual 'water fight' on Arboretum Street, the students continued our tradition of parading in front of the Junior School where our girls had the chance to see some wonderful outfits and experience the excitement for themselves.
The atmosphere was absolutely ELECTRIC - gales of laughter and precious memories for our teachers who taught many of the girls up to Year 6, and squeals of delight from our pupils who loved the bubbles and splashes! 💦
David Attenborough's centenary has reminded us of the personal reply which he sent to Isabella - also now in Senior School - after she wrote to him in 2022:
"Thank you for your letter. I do not have a list of favourite animals. I am scared of king cobras, I have seen lots of crocodiles, and I don't have any pets."
Have YOU written to a famous achiever and received a reply? Do let us know!
