The Summer Term ends at 12:30 this coming Wednesday. Please ensure that your daughters are collected promptly, as there will be no After School Club provision. Thank you.

Year 6 have just spent three days at Dobroyd Castle's Robinwood Activity Centre in West Yorkshire, where they faced a variety of personal and team challenges such as climbing, caving, zip-wire and canoeing - all of which involved venturing beyond their own comfort zones to achieve team and personal success.
From crossing the legendary 'piranha pool' to escaping from a dungeon-themed escape room, our oldest pupils tested their problem solving and leadership skills to the max.
Year 6, you can be very proud of your collaborative approach; your teamwork was outstanding, you supported each other, and you were inclusive. And you also demonstrated your wider team spirit by celebrating Bolton's Sports Day victory!
Well done, 6B and 6W - your behaviour and manners were impeccable on this three-day adventure, and we are very proud of you 👏

Thank you again to everyone who has ensured that clothing, footwear and equipment are labelled. Unfortunately, we still have a number of items which are unnamed and unclaimed in the Rainbow Room lost property station - including jumpers, cardigans, PE mid-layers, caps, tracksuit bottoms and a number of water bottles.
Lost property will be CLEARED at 5pm on Tuesday 7 July, with any remaining unnamed items being disposed of or made available to purchase at a preloved uniform sale in the Autumn Term. ♻️
- including victories for HASTINGS and BOLTON!

A busy final full week of term included Years 1-2 embarking on a football development competition. The girls represented NGHS Juniors brilliantly by demonstrating teamwork, enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout. Aiming to improve their fundamental movement skills, they gave it their all and did themselves proud. A huge well done to all!
Sports Day finally arrived on Wednesday - with Years 1-2 having tackled their field events last week, whilst other year groups completed them earlier this week. Everyone come together to compete in their final events - relays, sprints, egg and spoon and distance races. The excitement was palpable as girls ran and cheered, and ran some more!
2026 saw HASTINGS victorious at EYFS Sports Day, and BOLTON lifting the prized Junior School trophy and parading it in front of the crowd. Even Year 6 (by now away on their residential) were included in the celebrations, as they were presented with medals 100 miles away at Dobroyd Castle!
Congratulations to everyone involved - staff included - for showing resilience, teamwork and positivity in what was a huge undertaking to accommodate all the events in a slightly slimmed down (and somewhat cooler) Sports Day.
Congratulations to our only record breaker this year, Emily (5MC), with her shot put throw of 7.02m!

A new style of PE kit is now being sold by Stevensons - very similar to the current design, it includes a round neck T-shirt, skort, shorts, trousers and midlayer:
If your daughter is in Year 3 and her Year 2 kit still fits, then it's fine to carry on wearing it until it's replaced by 'new' kit when she grows out of it.
Girls in Year 4 and above should either wear the new kit, or the former kit of performance polo shirt, etc.
REMINDER - all kit should bear our current school crest.
We look forward to welcoming the new Years 5-6 to swimming lessons in the Autumn Term. In order to hit the ground running - especially for girls who are less confident in water - we urge parents to consider swimming opportunities over the summer:
Even you are not eligible, please remember that staying afloat is a life skill that is as important as knowing how to cross a road safely – it could save your daughter's life.
For more information on what to do if you are in trouble in the water, visit the RNLI website. Water safety is a topic that our girls in Nursery, Pre-School, Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 5 have studied this term, in swimming lessons or face-to-face with the RNLI:
As we approach the summer holiday, just a reminder that if you would like to have your daughter's ears pierced, please try to ensure that this is done at the start of the holiday to allow sufficient time for healing - and so that earrings can be removed and not worn to school on PE and swimming days.
This applies especially to girls in the current Years 4 and 5, as their swimming lessons will start in early September.
Mr Smith
It was lovely to welcome so many parents and grandparents to our end-of-year Gymnastics Club Showcase, in which girls entertained and impressed everyone with movements learnt in their Wednesday evening coaching sessions. Well done to everyone involved!
This week, it was the turn of our Year 5 team to take on the challenges of running, jumping and throwing against both male and female competitors.
We fielded some excellent performances and the girls can be proud of the levels which they have reached over the course of a year. The standout performance came from Cece (5JC) who won a compelling sprint race - against a field of boys! Overall, we could only count our girl vs girl scores, however we still managed to beat two other schools who counted both male and female scores together. Another case of #thisgirlcan 💪🏼

This week, girls from Nursery to Year 5 enjoyed two amazing performances of Un Océan d’Amour - part of Nottingham’s Puppet Festival, staged by the internationally acclaimed French puppet theatre company La Salamandre and hosted by our very own Squire Performing Arts Centre.
Delivered entirely without words, this adaptation of Grégory Panaccione and Wilfrid Lupano's graphic novel explores themes of adventure, imagination and emotion in its story of a lost sailor and his wife’s journey to find him.
Following the show, many girls participated in creative workshops where they enjoyed making their own puppet sharks or birds. They produced some fantastic creations and approached the activities with great enthusiasm and imagination!
Mr Rolfe
What an incredible week it has been for the Music Department!
Our annual Reception to Year 2 Concert demonstrated our belief in musical education from an early age, showcasing everything that our youngest pupils have learnt this year via the NGHS Da Capo course.
Girls from Reception showed what they can do on a keyboard and with percussion and woodwind instruments. Year 1 added the violin to the mix - displaying excellent focus - and Year 2 then stepped up to show off their viola, cello and cornet skills.
As well as group pieces, there were drum, piano and violin solos (all very daunting), however our performers plucked up courage and poise, played beautifully and captivated their audience.
Mrs Fowler had the honour of presenting Reception and Year 1 pupils with medals to mark their achievements this year, and Year 2 pupils received trophies to mark the end of their wonderful Da Capo journey.
Next Steps
For parents with daughters in Reception and Year 1, please remember that you will need to reapply for the next year of the Da Capo course:
For Year 2 pupils going into Year 3, it is now time to choose the instrument for which your daughter would like individual tuition from September.
Or email m.rolfe@not.gdst.net to arrange a time to chat about the amazing musical opportunities available. The future is bright! 😎

On Tuesday evening, our Year 6 Rock Band took to the stage in a show of diversity, ambition and courage at our school-wide rock night hosted by The Running Horse.
Our band's six-song setlist spanned from Guns N' Roses to Olivia Rodrigo, and brought amazing energy to the stage which proved that the girls have dazzling musical futures ahead of them!
Wednesday morning saw our Year 5 Music Tour students joining forces with pupils from Years 7 to 9 in an event which allowed families to enjoy a delicious school breakfast accompanied by exceptional live music.
This was a vital milestone as we make final preparations for the exciting Paris music tour next week, giving Year 5 an opportunity to try out their musical set in front of a supportive home crowd. They passed with flying colours!
There will be further exciting musical news next week - stay tuned!

Five students from Year 5 were recently selected to attend a Robotics Competition at our sister school in Sheffield, based on their engagement and progress in computing lessons this year.
They began by coding Lego robots, de-bugging their programs in order to respond to different challenges centred around a Winter Olympics theme. Robots were programmed to slalom ski, cross mountainous icy terrain, and figure skate. This was also an exercise in collaboration and communication, as Etta, Nihaal, Chloe, Hattie and Lannaé developed their problem-solving skills whilst teamed up with children from other schools.
Congratulations to Chloe who was a member of the overall winning team, taking away a bespoke 3D-printed trophy!

Our longest-serving NGHS librarian shares her summer holiday reading recommendations ...
The Junior School Library stocks many magical picture books for our youngest readers to explore and share over the holidays, whether home or away!
Jonny’s Lambert’s Bear and Bird Find a Footprint uncovers the discoveries on a woodland walk, whilst classics such as John Hegley’s Stanley’s Stick and Julia Donaldson’s The Singing Mermaid will transport you to the seaside and beyond.
Newly independent readers might enjoy Daisy and the Trouble with School Trips, or any of the other titles in Kes Gray’s popular series. Wherever Daisy ends up, there are always obstacles to overcome - fun and relatable, with great illustrations, these books are guaranteed to make you laugh.
We also have some wonderful award-winning fiction suitable for older readers:
Brogen Murphy’s Wildlands won the 2025 Children’s Wainwright Prize and was shortlisted for this year’s Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. Set twenty-five years in the future, the story tracks two sisters stranded in the Wildlands, where humans are banned and wolves, lynx and bison roam free - will they have the determination to survive?
Shortlisted for The Carnegie Medal for Writing 2026, Birdie by JP Rose is a tender animal story set in the Yorkshire Dales, while Katya Balen’s Ghostlines explores friendship and belonging on a treacherous trip to a haunted island.
To beat any summer boredom, we have a huge range of non-fiction titles to help girls hone their reading skills and discover new activities. Whether you’re gardening, playing football or chess, cooking or painting, we have a book for you!
