Temperatures are forecast to be much lower from Monday, so girls should revert to their usual summer uniform, with the exception of Wednesday when PE kit and house t-shirts will be worn all day. Thank you.

With unusually high temperatures having led to the postponement of Sports Day, the PE department has summoned up buckets of RESILIENCE and applied more than a touch of CREATIVITY so that our girls can still shine!
Field events started today and will be completed at school on Monday, and we have scheduled distance runs, sprint finals and relays on site this coming Wednesday. Monday will also see Year 6 tackling their distance runs and relays before departing on their summer residential midweek.
Thank you to everyone who is helping us to deliver Sports Day 'in instalments', and well done to our competitors who are working hard in their events. Will Bolton bowl everyone over, or will Luxton lead the way? Can Hastings hold firm, or will Skeel steal the show? Please join us on Wednesday at 10am and all will be revealed!
EYFS Sports Day is unaffected and will still take place on the school field from 9m to 10am on Wednesday.
The Dining Hall will be open for parents until 10am, but if you are arriving at 9am for EYFS Sports Day or 10am for Y1-Y6 events, please enter via the bus lane gate on Balmoral Road.
In other news this week, our top Year 6 pentathletes put their skills to the test in the Nottingham City Quad Kids Athletics competition, against both boys and girls. Due to the heat, the event was held indoors and competitors were able to throw an indoor javelin, complete a horizontal jump, and take part in a number of running events.
With it being a mixed event, our girls' results against the boys could not be counted towards our final result. Despite this, we still managed to beat three of the schools who counted both girls' and boys' results! A great achievement from our team - well done, girls (next time, we will borrow those very convincing beards from Mrs McDowell's costume store) 🧔🏽🧔🏻♀️🧔🏻♂️
After some especially generous donations far in excess of items given in swaps, we have surplus secondhand children's books for rehoming - and we also have ex-library books to give away.
Help yourselves to as many as you like from the trolleys on the playground after school from Monday!

Our Diversity and Inclusion Team worked extremely hard recently to plan and deliver a vibrant, activity‑filled afternoon to mark GDST Diversity and Inclusion Day on 22 June.
Having researched the many languages spoken in our school community, the girls created an inspiring programme which began with performances led by Mrs Keys and the school choirs. These included the West African children's song Fanga Alafia, two French numbers - On écrit sur les murs and Jean Petit qui danse - and Sommerfuglen sung in Danish by our youngest pupils.
Other activities included learning how people say 'welcome' around the world - including in British Sign Language - and contributing to a collaborative canvas designed by Si-Rae from Year 6 to reflect our global community. There were also opportunities to explore Islamic designs and the Chinese Willow pattern, and even sports from different cultures such as pétanque and table tennis.
What a wonderful event; it was especially lovely to see collaboration across age groups in each House, making the afternoon both meaningful and memorable.

Continuing their learning about the history of human flight, Year 2 have been eager to discover more about Mr Rolls and Mr Royce, and how their partnership helped to shape the world of aviation.
During the girls' study visit to the Rolls Royce Heritage Museum this week, they explored how jet turbines work and saw a fascinating range of real engines. One of the highlights was working together as a team to assemble a small engine - an enjoyable, hands-on way to bring our aviation topic to life.

You may have recently seen a message from the GDST about its Parent Survey, which was emailed directly to families - it should have appeared as ‘GDSTsurvey’ in your inboxes.
The questionnaire provides opportunities for you to tell us about your experience of a GDST education. It will take approximately five minutes to complete, and we encourage all parents to participate.
This project is run by ETS, an independent research company which abides by the Market Research Society Code of Conduct - individual responses will be completely confidential.
Thank you for your support.

As part of their recent traditional tales topic, our Reception pupils visited Nottingham's beautiful Central Library on Tuesday.
The girls enjoyed exploring the children’s section and the story time, delivered by two librarians who then also welcomed the everyone to the immersive room. This was an opportunity to engage with interactive stories that they had studied at school, demonstrating their good understanding of old favourites such as The Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

This was a wonderful visit; as well as seeing our girls so engaged in traditional tales, I also witnessed them immersed in a virtual 'undersea world' and doing battle with aliens!
