Miss Abbott
A busy week in PE and sport has seen us competing in the GDST athletics rally and the Y5 and Y6 completing their final pentathlon of the year.
This year's athletics rally was hosted by NGHS at Derby Moorways stadium, with fifteen schools from as far afield as Newcastle, Croydon and Oxford taking part, each fielding teams from Years 5 to 12.
The weather held firm and we were blessed with some blue sky and no rain! As always, this was a very tough competition with exceptional athletes from across the Trust, however our girls ran, jumped and threw to the best of their abilities - even breaking two GDST records at first!
Well done to everyone who represented NGHS Juniors; our Years 5-6 team finished in overall 9th position and can be proud of their personal and team achievements.
Notable results came from the following girls:
YEAR 5
Millie - 80m in 13.13s (6th)
Penelope - long jump 3.65m (3rd, beating the previous GDST record)
Katharina, Millie, Rosie, Penelope, Emily W
5x80m relay in 1:04.34 (record breaking initially, but subsequently bettered by another school)
Katharina - 600m in 1:12.75 (7th)
YEAR 6
Jaime - cricket ball throw, 201.2m (8th)
Isabel, Emily B, Sophia, Marsha, Jaime
5x80m relay in 1:07.1 (8th)
Back at school, our final pentathlon of this academic year allowed girls in Years 5-6 to measure their progress across a range of fitness components. There were some exceptional results, with SKEEL crowned House champions after an incredible points improvement of 370!
In the individual stakes, it is also about bettering September’s scores, - so we especially congratulate the top three achievers from each age group:
YEAR 5
1st Yilin (+76 points)
2nd Annabelle (+75 points)
= 3rd Etta & Hattie B (+62 points ea)
YEAR 6
1st Juliet (+62 points)
2nd Sneha (+51 points)
3rd Jaime (+37 points)
This was a tremendous effort all round, with excellent scores across the board. The girls now await their final competitive event of the year - Sports Day - to apply RESILENCE and POSITIVITY in propelling their Houses to victory!
Sports Day for Key Stages 1 and 2 will take place on Friday 26 June at the Harvey Hadden athletics stadium, where - due to the temporary closure of the main stand - spectating girls will be based under gazebos on the in-field.
Parents are welcome to attend from 12:50 to watch the presentation for the field results, and then live action on the track as the girls compete in sprint and relay finals; full details will follow shortly.
This year’s Sports Day for Nursery, Pre School and Reception will take place on Wednesday 1st July, on the school field.
Parents will be sent precise details soon, and will be welcome to attend from 9am to watch events and presentations.
Our youngest pupils have been practising hard, and they are looking forward to being cheered on by their families!
Mrs McDowell and Mr Rolfe
On Wednesday, Years 3-4 took to the stage for their collaborative production of Shakespeare Rocks! - a memorable milestone for this talented group of girls which included some masterfully delivered one liners, super comic timing, great choreography and catchy songs.
We know just how hard the girls worked on this performance, so it was thrilling to see them engaged with their roles, supportive of one another throughout, and passionate about EXCELLENCE.
Well done 3B and 4B; your audiences were very impressed by the show and we especially look forward to seeing the new Year 4 taking centre stage next summer!

Mr Aspley
I recently had the pleasure of hosting Year 5's weekly science lesson in a Senior School physics laboratory, where 5MC and 5JC participated in a bridge building workshop.
It was a pleasure to work with the girls, and I look forward to welcoming them back again soon.

We have a couple of places still available for our ski trip to Italy, from 14-20 March 2027; this is open to girls presently in Years 4-5. We will return for our third visit to the slopes of Aprica, along with pupils and staff from our sister GDST schools Northwood College, Sutton High and Norwich High.
The estimated price for 2027's alpine adventure will be £1430 per head – just £40 more than this year’s trip. Please do read the email sent recently to all parents of girls in 4B, 5JC and 5MC; any remaining places not taken by NGHS will be offered to other schools, so time is of the essence if you would like your daughter to enjoy this experience.
Feel free to contact me for further information: j.abbott@not.gdst.net

Finding her Voice shines a spotlight on the achievements of our girls beyond the classroom - moments where they’ve taken the skills, values and confidence nurtured at school and applied them in exciting, real-world ways, and then shared those high points with their classmates.
Clara's ballet journey 🩰
This week, we’re delighted to celebrate the achievements of a Year 5 pupil whose RESILIENCE is really beginning to pay off ...
5JC's Clara recently heard that she has auditioned successfully for a Year 6 place with the Royal Ballet School from September, having previously earned positions on their Junior Associate, Spring Intensive and Summer Intensive Programmes, and having participated in the English Youth Ballet’s production of Swan Lake in Nottingham (in which she was awarded one of just three junior scholarships).
Clara has also taken part in the Youth America Grand Prix this year, scoring 88/100 in the international semi-finals.
Such achievements only come with hard work and commitment; she trains every day after school, most weekend days, and during the holidays. Clara absolutely loves ballet, and her family are very proud of her efforts. We are thrilled for you too, Clara! 👍🏻
