Our first batch of NGHS Juniors honey is now available to buy! Carefully extracted, jarred and labelled by the girls of 4B in their beekeeping lessons, this it is a true labour of learning and love!
Every jar represents teamwork and a deeper understanding of the natural world, and we cannot wait to what awaits the current Year 3 in the Autumn Term if our bees stay busy!
Proceeds will be ploughed back into our beekeeping project, and stock is limited - so buy now to avoid disappointment!

Final preparations are underway for our Junior School Summer Concert on Tuesday 12 May at 5.30pm. This year, all of our ensembles and choirs will come together on stage at the Squire Performing Arts Centre for an evening of global music that will reflect our commitment to musical diversity and depth.
In a voyage across continents, the girls' repertoire will include vibrant music from Africa, Scandinavia, Europe and South America. And in a powerful display of community, every pupil from Years 3 to 6 will perform in a finale with their music teachers in what promises to be a moving and unforgettable conclusion to the evening.
This year's Scholastic Book Fair will be open in the Rainbow Room during break times and lunchtimes, with a librarian on hand to offer guidance:
Fri 15 May – Years 5-6
Mon 18 May – Nursery, Reception, Years 1-2
Tue 19 May – Years 3-4
There will be a 3 for 2 promotion on all titles, and girls will need to bring cash to school in a named purse for their purchases. Sorry, we are unable to reserve books, however we can order additional copies if we sell out of popular titles.

Nursery and Pre School have been busy baking daffodil biscuits as part of their topic about spring and the life cycle of plants. The girls have worked carefully to weigh ingredients, taking care to notice numbers on the scales. They have also used elbow grease to combine ingredients, manipulate dough and roll it out.
The baked results were fabulous - and once the biscuits had cooled, everyone had great fun decorating them.

On Wednesday, six girls from Year 5 - selected for their engagement and progress in drama and English - travelled to London to represent NGHS at this year's Shakespeare Globe Day for GDST schools.
Chloe, Annabelle, Flo, Lannaé, Etta and Emily enjoyed stage combat demonstrations with broad swords, staffs and rapiers, a tour of The Globe, and a drama workshop which explored the Shakespearean language and characters of The Winter's Tale. There was even a separate teachers' session in which Mrs McDowell and other GDST performing arts specialists took to the stage to develop their own theatre skills.
The day concluded with a live performance of The Winter’s Tale - so all in all, this was a day packed with opportunities to collaborate other GDST pupils and teachers, and to learn more about Shakespeare's world.
Years 5 and 6
You can’t a-fjord to miss this masterpiece!
Get ready to be transported to the majestic, frost-bitten fjords of Norway! This coming Wednesday evening, the curtain will rise at the Squire Performing Arts Centre for the much anticipated Years 5-6 production of Frozen Jr.
This will be the culmination of months of hard work, commitment and good humour. From the very first read-through to the final dress rehearsals, the girls have poured their hearts and souls into bringing the Kingdom of Arendelle to life. Be prepared for ...
Outstanding visuals through dynamic lighting and stagecraft
Bespoke costumes and immersive sets that capture the magic of the north
Breaking the ice
This production has stretched our girls’ abilities in music and drama further than ever before. Taking many of them out of their comfort zones, it has provided opportunities for performers to tackle complex material, develop resilience and improve self-confidence - lessons that will serve them long after the ice melts.
"The score for Frozen is deceptively difficult and I have really had to work hard and concentrate - it's an enormous challenge to master complex harmonies and singing in multiple parts. We are even singing in Old Norse and Norwegian, which is no mean feat for a junior school."
Mr Rolfe, Music Director
"We would like to send all good wishes and the very best of luck to everyone in Years 5-6. Your passion and teamwork in this joint endeavour have been inspiring, and we know you will be magnificent on the night. See you in Arendelle, girls!"
Mrs McDowell, Director
This week, 3B bade farewell to Mrs Eggington and welcomed back Mrs Bailey whose study leave has taken her across the world and back. Read all about her Malaysian and Australian school visits, and her trip to Singapore in next week's SPARK!
Miss Abbott
It is a sad fact that every year, we hear stories in the national press about young men and women who lose their lives through drowning - and very often it is subsequently revealed that they could not swim or were insufficiently confident in deep water.
Leisure-wise, swimming is not for everyone. However the ability to stay afloat is vital for personal safety - hence the requirements of the National Curriculum which state:
By the end of Year 6, all pupils must be taught to swim with a mandatory requirement that they can swim at least 25 metres unaided, use a range of strokes effectively, and perform safe self-rescue.
FACT
Those introduced to swimming before the age of four are up to 88% less likely to drown in later life.
FACT
Safety isn't the only benefit of knowing how to swim! In water, both sides of the brain activate at the same time, which does not happen in most other forms of play. Neurologists say that swimming consistently activates bilateral brain coordination - the firing of both left and right hemispheres at rates much higher than any form of land-based activity.
Each stroke requires parts of the body to work together: right arm left leg, left arm right leg. This 'crossing' builds the same neural pathways that facilitate reading, writing and even emotional regulation.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Those who swim regularly before the age of five also show significant advantages in language development, mathematical reasoning, physical coordination and awareness.

We had the most AMAZING assembly on Tuesday, when Mrs Quine's Junior and Senior School flute choirs, ranging from Years 4 to 13, joined forces to entertain us with a truly celebratory showcase of their talents.
It was especially moving to see our most experienced students inspiring our younger flautists with their continued commitment and passion.
We are very fortunate to have such a high-calibre flute department at NGHS; if your daughter is interested in taking up this instrument, please email me at m.rolfe@not.gdst.net 😊
