Above: This year's NGHS Juniors Sponsored Spell raised a grand total of £2,284.30, which we have donated to the RNLI in memory of Mrs Sail's late husband, Grant. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED THIS PROJECT!

This week saw no fewer than four top quality out-of-school experiences for Year 5 in North Yorkshire - a history study visit to Eden Camp, a geography field trip to Robin Hood’s Bay, an English curriculum walking tour of Whitby, and a workshop with the RNLI.
Eden Camp is a modern history museum, housed in a former prisoner of war camp. Here, the girls consolidated last term’s WW2 topic with a recap of the roles of women on the home front, and the experiences of families affected by bombing, rationing and evacuation.
As well as developing their OS map reading skills, the girls’ current geography topic involves a study of how bays and headlands erode over time, and the nature of coastal defences. The beach at Boggle Hole, the Cleveland Way coastal path, and the village of Robin Hood’s Bay provided opportunities for them to see examples of land slips and sea walls up close, to visit a community under threat of coastal erosion, and to navigate a walking route using map reading skills learnt in class.
The final morning, in Whitby, had equally important learning angles for our Year 5 girls. Firstly, their current English texts - an adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, Room 13 by Robert Swindells and Evie's War by Holly Webb - are set in the town, and seeing the settings described in the books will support their upcoming reading and writing tasks. Secondly, the girls have been learning about the work of the RNLI and this was an opportunity for them to visit a working lifeboat station, where Mrs Sail joined them to present the funds raised by this year's staff and pupil Sponsored Spell.

Our annual NGHS Juniors Sports Day will take place next Friday, 27 June, at Harvey Hadden stadium. Pupils in Years 1 to 6 will be running, jumping and throwing to score as many points as possible for their Houses ...
Will Bolton retain their title?
Who will break school records?
Who's hoping to stand on the podium in 1st, 2nd or 3rd position?
We look forward to seeing every girl do her best, as well as - for the first time ever - a performance from Miss Georgia and our very own Cheer Club! 😀
In other news, Years 5 and 6 played their penultimate cricket match of the season this week against Nottingham High School. Dynamo cricket was our chosen format and it provided our oldest girls with a final practice opportunity before County finals on 2nd July. Year 6 beat Nottingham High School by 14 runs - a comfortable win. The Year 5 team - helped by reserves from Y4-Y3 Cricket Club - narrowly lost 173 to 177. Well done to all concerned; we thank Marni, Orissa, Daphne, Millie and Cece for stepping up, and we wish good luck to Year 6 in the County finals!
As we approach the summer holiday, just a reminder that if you would like to have your daughter's ears pierced, please try to ensure that this is done at the start of the holiday to allow sufficient time for healing - and so that earrings can be removed and not worn to school on PE and swimming days.

Girls from Year 5 and 6 enjoyed an exciting and educational sleepover Space Camp last Friday, shich centred around the fascinating topic of The Evolution of Stars - an opportunity to explore how stars were born from the creation of the Universe to the process of nuclear fusion involving hydrogen and helium.
The evening included making telescope observations with our in-house astronomer Mr Barrett, cooking dinner in the outdoor pizza oven, adventuring in Upnah Wood, and roasting marshmallows around the campfire.
With guidance of from Mr Rolfe, our intrepid space campers also created captivating space soundtracks and entered a design competition, envisioning what Earth would look like in binary, trinary and quadruple star systems - with winners' prizes such as knitted astronauts and astronaut food!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this year's Space Camp such a huge success!
Miss Duce
Thank you to everyone who came along to our recent Father's Day breakfast - the girls loved hosting you in their Nursery learning environment ❤️

This week marked a truly bee-autiful milestone for NGHS Juniors - the arrival of our first colony of bees. Our Year 3 apprentice beekeepers were front and centre, helping to carefully place the frames into the hive and welcoming our pollinating friends to their new home. This was a memorable, hands-on learning experience which required curiosity, teamwork and steady nerves - well done, girls! 🌸 🌹 🌼
* An update *

Just about every pupil from Reception to Year 6 has now registered online for our NGHS 150 Junior Challenge! Over the coming days, form teachers will be speaking with girls to discuss their ideas and offer guidance as necessary. We will let parents know once this has been done - at which point it's over to the girls to start working on their projects, ready to present them in September.
We will also let you know when the NGHS 150 Junior Challenge microsite has been updated, so that you can look at ideas and check deadlines with your daughters.
Sponsored Relay Walk
Miss Whitehead and Miss Wall
Join us for a special event on 5-6 September to mark 150 years of Nottingham Girls High School - a sponsored relay walk across Nottinghamshire which will include pupils and their families from both the Junior and Senior Schools.
This meaningful challenge will help to raise funds for the NGHS Bursary Fund, ensuring that future generations of girls can benefit from the opportunities provided by our school.
Sign up forms have been emailed to parents - please join us in this team endeavour, and together we can walk to make a difference for her future! 🙏
Calling all eager photographers! The GSA’s photography competition aims to find the best up and coming photographers in our schools today, and to show the world life through their lenses.
For this year’s competition, the GSA offers girls the opportunity to explore the theme of a bright and brave future for all girls.
Happy snapping, NGHS Juniors - and remember, you have to be in it to win it!
