SUNDAY 15 JUNE
Miss Duce
Well done to our very youngest pupils who made their very own Father's Day cards from scratch this week, including precision cutting and marbling. This was a great way to practise their fine motor skills and - for some girls - to write a personal greeting too ❤️

Most Reception to Year 6 pupils have now spoken with their parents and registered online for our NGHS 150 Junior Challenge. The teaching team and I have been looking at the girls' concepts and my goodness, there are some great examples of creative thinking! These include ideas for 3D art and home learning, and even crafting objects which can be enjoyed by others in school.
Please remember, we are expecting ideas and entries from all girls, from Reception* to Year 6** ; this is an opportunity to apply learning and develop RESILIENCE at all ages, with pupils working at home over the next three months to challenge themselves and showcase their CREATIVITY.
The deadline to register is this coming Monday, from which point teachers will be speaking with girls in class about their upcoming projects.
If you have not already done so, please now take time to visit the NGHS 150 Junior Challenge microsite with your daughter. For now, girls just need to focus on MILESTONE 1:
* Participation is optional for girls currently in Nursery.
** Form tutors for the new Year 7 are keen to see what the current Year 6 can achieve over the summer, in preparation for starting Senior School.

Year 3 have just returned from a stretching study visit to Yorkshire - this was the girls' very first residential trip, and therefore an important milestone in their school lives. The packed two-day programme included archaeology and artefact workshops curated by the renowned Jorvik Centre, an evening walking tour of the City of York, and an exploration of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
It was lovely to see everyone collaborating and extending friendship groups, sharing the novelty and responsibilities of dormitory life for one night, and enjoying opportunities to consolidate and apply their learning beyond the classroom. Working in unfamiliar environments and encouraging independence with changed routines are both important aspects of overnight stays and developing self-confidence, and we are delighted to say that EVERY pupil exceeded our expectations - well done, 3B!

This week, Years 1 and 2 enjoyed a visit from Connie’s grandfather ‘Pops’, who told them all about bees. He brought a bee hive for them to inspect, both inside and out, and at the end of his presentation and workshop everyone received their own pot of honey. Thank you, Pops - you were fabulous! 🐝 🐝 🐝
It's great when family members come into school to share their expertise, and we also love opportunities to visit workplaces. If you have a hobby or career that you think might help us to add depth to the curriculum, please speak with your daughter's form teacher or email Mr Cox m.cox@not.gdst.net

Yet another busy week in the PE Department as we hurtle towards the end of another fantastic term of sport!
Monday saw NGHS organising and hosting the GDST Athletics Rally at Harvey Hadden stadium, which will also be the venue for own sports day in just two weeks’ time. The Year 5-6 team were throwing, running and jumping all day long under the watchful eye of Miss Keys, whilst I manned the starting pistol and started all of the track races - of which there were just shy of 100!
Special mentions must go to Magdalena who made the final of the Year 6 150m, to Elsie who finished 5th in the Year 6 600m, and to both relay teams who made their respective finals. The standard is always very high against our sister GDST schools, and the girls did very well as they negotiated the demands of a rally that was new to all of them.
Hot on the heels of the athletics came the Mixed Cricket Tournament for Years 5 and 6, except most co-ed schools were unable to field mixed teams so we ended up playing boys from across the region! This was great experience for our oldest girls as they continue their preparation for County finals on 2nd July, and some narrow losses were offset by a closely fought win from their six matches. For Year 5 this was a steep learning curve, however their RESILIENCE shone through and their improvement over the course of the day was very much evident. Well done to everyone involved! 💪
Parents of girls currently in Years 4-5, who have previously expressed an interest, will shortly receive a message about next year’s NGHS Juniors ski trip to Italy, from 21-27 March 2026. Please ensure that you sign up when the link goes live! We will then request a deposit, which will be added to your ParentPay account and should be paid within 24hrs to secure a place.
Mr Rolfe
On Tuesday, Year 4 took to the stage for their very first music concert - a memorable milestone for this talented group of young musicians. For many, this was their first time performing a solo in front of an audience, and they certainly rose to the occasion with RESILIENCE. We witnessed some beautiful performances that demonstrated thorough preparation, and from the opening notes to the final applause the girls showcased musical maturity beyond their years.
It was also a joy to see the performers' enthusiasm coupled with real teamwork; Year 4 took responsibility for every aspect of the concert, acting as their own roadies, managing front of house, and presenting the recital with charm. Thank you to everyone involved, including the girls' parents whose generous support of our music programme helps to make wonderful moments like this possible.
