On Wednesday, Mr Cox and Mr Elkington launched our 2026 essay writing competition, which all pupils in Years 3 to 6 are expected to enter. Girls have now been briefed both in assembly and in class, and have been given access to resources and examples on GoogleClassroom. This writing task should now be completed at home, so there is no other written homework set during the two weeks either side of Half Term.
We can’t wait to see our girls' discoveries about their parents' jobs and careers, expressing pride in achievements and gratitude for hard work. Good luck to everyone - we hope that you will research carefully, apply the skills which you have learnt in school, and write with precision and pride!
Click on the link below to read the original parent briefing for this project, and please remember that girls can only access GoogleClassroom using their own logins - and not on a device that is already logged into Google with a different account.

Last Sunday afternoon, eighteen musicians from Years 5 to 12 took to the stage for an open mic afternoon organised by Mr Costin at The Running Horse. During three hours of guitar and vocal performances, our girls showcased passion, commitment and an impressive range of musical styles.
From those who began lessons as recently as January to our accomplished Grade 8 pupils, every performer contributed to an engaging and inspiring afternoon. This event was not only a celebration of talent, but also an opportunity to support a good cause, raising just over £160 for Maggie’s Nottingham - well done and thank you to everyone involved, both on stage and in the audience!
Thanks to the efforts of our Year 6 lost property monitors and helpers from After School Club, our treasure trove of mislaid items is smaller than ever!
Please note that any unclaimed or unlabeled belongings which remain in the lost property bank at the end of this half term will be sent to a charity shop, thrown away, or resold in our next preloved uniform sale. Thank you! 🙏

Lots of excitement in the PE Department this week – again! There was netball against our sister schools in Northampton and Sheffield, as well as hockey against Sheffield and two cross country events!
Our Year 6 netballers played an enjoyable and exciting game against Northampton (eventually succumbing to a 5-9 loss), whilst the game against Sheffield ended with a convincing Nottingham victory of 16-0! Well done to everyone - especially Gabi - this was a fabulous opportunity to practise for the forthcoming Condover weekend.
Mrs Braud reports that our Years 5-6 hockey home fixture against Sheffield was a tense affair, with it being the first match for the team. However, NGHS Juniors fought hard and won 3-0; this was an awesome result, with Marsha voted player of the match. Huges thanks go to everyone who assisted on Friday afternoon, including Mrs Hayes and girls from Senior School.
Meanwhile in the mud and rain, Mr Cox and Mr Scarborough accompanied our intrepid cross country runners to Highfields School in Newark for races that were postponed from November due to even worse weather. Especially good performances came from Rosie and McKendra, and our Year 5-6 team claimed third position in their event. That concludes this year’s cross country races, as we head into athletics season where running on a nice, flat athletics track is so much easier - phew! 😂

Constructive and creative use of iPads and Chromebooks is a key component of learning in all year groups, with girls empowered to engage with IT and online learning from an early age.
From Year 3 especially, independent and responsible use of devices provides opportunities for girls to work at their own pace, recap recent learning, and revisit resources which they might have missed.
My class have recently collaborated to research the life of Queen Elizabeth II using iPads, and then answer questions about her reign. This - along with the traditional medium of a children's book by Steve Antony - has inspired the girls' to plan and write their own spin-off versions, with titles such as The Queen’s Scarf, The Queen’s Earrings and The Queen’s Crown.
2C have demonstrated excellent teamwork skills, independence and resilience in all of these tasks - well done, everyone! 👍

YogiBears on Mondays from 3.45pm to 4.30pm now has space for new members from Years 3 to 6!
Yoga offers significant physical and mental benefits for adults and children alike; it improves flexibility, strength, balance and coordination whilst developing focus, managing stress and building self esteem through non-competitive movement and breathwork.
All of this requires commitment and a willingness to 'have a go' - although at YogiBears sessions, it also helps if you can make a few animal noises and can laugh at yourself if you topple! For further information, please email Miss Morley k.morley@not.gdst.net

The GDST Laurie Magnus Poetry Prize was established in memory of Laurie Magnus by his widow. Laurie Magnus was a GDST Council member from 1907, and Chairman from 1929 until his death in 1933. He also wrote The Jubilee Book of the Girls’ Day School Trust (1923).
This year's competition provides an opportunity for girls in Years 1-6 to compose a poem on any subject. Entries should:
have a title
be typed in a WORD document
be attached to an email and sent to Miss Morley k.morley@not.gdst.net no later than 9am on Friday 6 March.
This is a great opportunity for ambitious girls to be creative, with the chance of winning a prize.
